LaservisiónCirugía refractiva - Laser vision

What is the Lasik technique?

Tecnica Lasik

The Lasik Technique could be defined as the laser sculpting of a corrective lens in the tissue of the cornea while maintaining its vital elements.

The technique smoothes, regulates and reduces the curve of the cornea to obtain precise image focusing on the retina. The advantages of this technique are:

  • Fast sight recovery
  • Precise, predictable and scientifically proven results.
  • Durable, definitive results
  • Safe, the most advanced, pain-free technique available without anaesthesia

The Lasik technique modifies the structure of the cornea and returns its natural vision. It could be said that this is the safest technique.

What are the results?

Optimum. The Lasik Technique treatment corrects

  • MYOPIA
  • HYPERMETROPIA
  • ASTIGMATISM

It is able to restore the best vision a patient has when wearing strongly-graduated corrective contact lenses. The results are truly spectacular. The intervention results in the complete recovery of natural vision in a high percentage of patients.

What is the procedure?

The procedure is short and painless. It only lasts 5 minutes for each eye. After the procedure, the patient is able to simply walk out without any kind of dressing of the eye.

The procedure is the following:

  1. Anaesthetic eye drops are applied.
  2. A fine layer on the surface of the cornea is measured and lifted.
  3. The Laser models the ocular surface at its different internal layers to correct the myopia, hypermetropia and/or astigmatism.
  4. The sheet initially measured in the cornea is put in place and adheres on its own.

Is it painful?

The intervention is totally painless thanks to the anaesthetic drops applied in each eye 5 minutes beforehand.

Furthermore, the post-operative period is painless and doesn't require covering the eyes. The Lasik Technique is safer, more efficient and more stable and predictable than any other laser technique.

And then what?

Half an hour after the procedure the patient is examined.

  • Following satisfactory examination, the patient may go straight home, after making an appointment for a follow-up check up.
  • On the day of the procedure the patient will only feel a mild itch similar to that caused by fine sand in the eyes. He or she will not feel pain and should not cover the eyes.
  • Vision recovery is very fast and progressive from the start. Over the following weeks it will continue to improve.
  • In a standard case, the patient applies antibiotic and anti-inflammatory drops for a week only.

Who can benefit?

Anyone over the age of 21.

  • With a stable prescription for at least a year prior:
    • from 0.50 to 12 dioptres of myopia.
    • from 0.50 to 4 dioptres of myopia.
    • rom 0.50 to 6 dioptres of myopia.

During the first visit, the corneal topography will be studied to see if the state of the cornea is appropriate for the procedure. In order to carry out a prognostic study, patients must not have been wearing contact lenses:

  • 15 days prior for soft contact lenses.
  • 21 days prior for soft toric contact lenses.
  • 30 days prior for rigid or GP contact lenses.

Patients with pacemakers or pregnant women may not undergo the procedure.
